Rankings Shift in Season of Firsts

Momentum in the 2012-2013 IRT Season rankings is on an upshift, as the November 22 update reveals #1 Rocky Carson expanded his season-to-date lead on the injured 8-time World Champion, Kane Waselenchuk, by winning the Garden City Turkey Shootout. Perennial finalist Carson’s first Tier 1 title during this season designated him the fourth IRT titleholder crowned in as many events.

#7 Daniel De La Rosa also made moves, closing the gap to #6 Chris Crowther (upset in the Garden City Round of 16) despite De La Rojas quarterfinal injury forfeit against #3 Alvaro Beltran. De La Rosa’s withdrawal occurred as fans were eagerly anticipating a re-match after the two faced off during De La Rosa’s first finals appearance the previous weekend. At the time, Beltran won, becoming the 13th member of the elite Tier 1 Champions Club. De La Rosa has recovered and is expected back for the New Jersey Open in December.

#3 Beltran’s final and semifinal finishes have helped him extend the gap to #4 Jose Rojas, who won the first Tier 1 Tournament this season. #5 Ben Croft and #8 Tony Carson round out the Top 8 pros in the rank, a position that’s particularly important this year as making one of the top 8 spots ensures they’ll be among those invited to compete in the ProKennex Tournament of Champions, May 15-18, which caps the 2013-2014 season at the Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC), 1849 SW Salmon St. Portland, in Oregon.
