The IRT’s best and brightest will descend upon New York on January 15th for one of the biggest events of the year, the 16th annual NY Temperature Controls IRT pro/am. With a month off, players will be able to come into the event fresh after the holiday break. Most notably, the racquetball world will expect a healthy, or at least match-ready, Kane Waselenchuk.

When the Lewis Drug Pro Am kicks off January 22, 2015 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the temperature outdoors could well be below zero, just like last year. But the action on the courts of the Sioux Falls Family YMCA – where the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) professionals will play – promises to be sizzling.

This season began well for Rocky and Kane, who played in the finals of both the Krowning Moment Bobcat Open and Kansas City Open. The Bobcat Open, which had been a satellite event up until this season, allowed many players to add to their point totals simply by attending. Kane and Rocky certainly took advantage of the opportunity, but a couple of other players took maximum advantage of the opportunity.

The timing, or pace, of the game is referred to as the tempo and rhythm. Unfortunately, most players rush to put the ball into play without thinking about finding a tempo and rhythm, or taking into account an opponent’s tempo and rhythm. Knowing (and controlling) the speed of play is a great help when in the heat of the battle trying to win the match.
Speculation about results and player matchups inevitably turns toward the barometer used to measure their success: the rankings. We decided to take a closer look, starting with a season-by-season analysis to see how the players stacked up since the IRT’s first full season under new leadership, 2010-2011.
