IRT Players Shine over the Weekend at National Events

Even though the men’s professional International Racquetball Tour (IRT) was off this past weekend, top IRT players thrived at both The USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships in Tempe, Arizona and The Campeonato Nacional Mexicano de Racquetbol Selectivo tournament in Chihuahua, Mexico.

At Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona at The 2016 USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships, IRT players #2-ranked Rocky Carson, #4 Jose Rojas, #6 Jansen Allen, #7 Markie Rojas, #13 Mauricio Zelada, #16 Jose Diaz and #20 Jake Bredenbeck all competed in singles and doubles. The 2015 UnitedHealthcare US Open Doubles runners-up team of Bredenbeck and Diaz won The Men’s Doubles US Team Qualifying to represent the United States at the upcoming International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships July 15-23 in Cali, Colombia. Reaching Your Dream Foundation Athletes Bredenbeck and Diaz defeated Carson and Allen 15-14, 15-11 in the championship final after they beat The Rojas Brothers in the semifinals. Carson and Allen, The 2016 USA Racquetball National Doubles runners-up, also earned positions on the U.S. National Team.

Carson won the Men’s Singles US Team Qualifying division at The USA Racquetball National Doubles to extend his lead in the race for the 2016-2017 USA Racquetball Team after the first two qualification events. He defeated Jose Rojas 15-14, 3-15, 11-8 in the final and now sits atop The U.S. National Team Singles Qualification Standings with 42 points. Jose Rojas has 30 for second followed by Markie Rojas with 24 and Diaz in fourth with 20. The top four point recipients receive invitations to join Team USA and will compete at the 2016 IRF World Championships. The U.S. Team Qualifying Division at the U.S. National Singles Championships is the third and final qualification event May 25-29 at The Highlands Ranch Recreation Center in Denver, Colorado. 

Carson also teamed up with Reaching Your Dream Foundation Founder and CEO Mike Lippitt to win Centurion Men’s Doubles at The 2016 USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships.

At The Campeonato Nacional Mexicano de Racquetbol Selectivo in Chihuahua, Mexico, #3-ranked Alvaro Beltran and #5 Daniel De La Rosa competed for positions on The Mexican National Team. De La Rosa defeated Javier Mar 15-13, 15-8 to win The Men’s Singles title at The Campeonato Nacional Mexicano de Racquetbol Selectivo and Beltran teamed up with Javier Moreno to win Men’s Doubles over Andree Parrilla and Rodrigo Montoya 15-5, 15-2.
