HEAD Penn’s Rocky Carson is the new No. 1 racquetball player in the world year to date in the 2014-2015 IRT Season after Michigan’s Red Swain shootout, and prior to winning the Garden City Turkey Shootout, Carson’s 18th career professional title.
HEAD Penn’s Rocky Carson is the new #1 racquetball player in the world on the men’s professional International Racquetball Tour (IRT) after the Red Swain Shootout, just prior to winning the Garden City Turkey Shootout, which will add to the 10 points separating him from Kane Waselenchuk, who has held the top spot for the last four years.. Carson last held the # 1 ranking in 2008.
Including the Garden City Kansas event, Carson has appeared in the finals of three of the four events held thus far in the 2013-2014 season. It took all five games, but came out ahead in the tiebreaker, making his fourth finals appearance the charm as he claimed the Turkey Shootout crown and his first pro stop victory of the season. The annual event in Garden City is in its 23rd year, making it one of the longest running tournaments in the country, and a first time tier 1.
Rocky’s return to the #1 spot is yet another accomplishment in his already impressive racquetball career. Rocky has been a member of the USA Racquetball national Team for 13 consecutive years. He is also the only player in racquetball history to earn the “racquetball trifecta,” by earning the USAR National Singles title, USAR National Doubles title, and WOR Outdoor National title in one season, 2006-2007. Carson won the 2007 US Open and is a three-time Gold Medalist in the Men’s Singles at the World Racquetball Championships.
Rocky Carson now joins HEAD Penn’s Paola Longoria at the #1 ranking, each on their respective pro tours. HEAD Penn’s Hall of Fame coach, Fran Davis, coaches both players.
HEAD Penn’s Tony Carson (no relation) reached the quarterfinals of the Garden City Turkey Shootout.
